Founders, Jim & Doreen Harkness, were both raised on mixed farms near Harriston, Ontario. They were married in 1959 and after 19 years of banking and plant management experience they started in mixed farming, graduated to beef cattle and finally cash crop. Raising four boys along the way, Harkness Equipment was started in 1977 and was incorporated in 1982.

In 2012, succession planning was underway with Doug Harkness assuming management of Harkness Equipment and John Harkness assuming management of Harco Ag Equipment (www.harcoag.ca )

Not your expected farm equipment company selling tractors and combines, Harkness Equipment has primarily sold grain storage, handling and drying products alongside shortline products of a niche market nature, usually of higher quality and serviced better than box store items!
